The kinds of Tree Surveys we do:
Stump Grinding
We provide stump grinding services using a range of different sized machines to suit all types of jobs. Whether it is a small stump in an area with narrow or limited access, or a large stump requiring more powerful equipment, we are able to advise on the most suitable approach. Stump grinding is an effective way to remove unwanted tree stumps below ground level, helping to make the area safe, tidy, and ready for replanting, landscaping, or future use.
Project Management
Project management services to help ensure tree-related works are planned, coordinated, and completed efficiently. This can include liaising with clients, contractors, local authorities, and other professionals to make sure that all arboricultural requirements are understood and followed. From initial advice through to completion, we can help manage the process, provide practical guidance, and ensure works are carried out safely, responsibly, and in line with the needs of the site and the client.
Woodland Management
Whether you have a small wooded area or a large woodland we provide woodland management services to help maintain healthy, safe, and sustainable woodland environments. This can include tree inspections, selective thinning, coppicing, ride and path clearance, habitat improvement, and the removal of unsafe or unsuitable trees where required. We are happy to advise on the most appropriate management approach for each site, whether the aim is to improve biodiversity, encourage healthy tree growth, maintain access, or manage woodland for long-term use and enjoyment.
Tree Bracing
Non-invasive tree bracing solutions, such as Cobra bracing systems, can help support trees with structural weaknesses while allowing natural movement and growth. This type of bracing can be suitable for trees with weak branch unions, heavy limbs, or areas of concern within the crown, helping to reduce the risk of failure without drilling into or damaging the tree. Non-invasive bracing can be especially useful for helping to preserve mature, veteran, or much-loved trees where retention is preferred over removal or heavy pruning. Each tree is assessed individually so that the most suitable support system can be recommended, helping to manage risk while maintaining the character, value, and amenity of the tree wherever possible.
Your Questions, Answered.
What is the difference between a tree surgeon and an arborist?
While the terms are often used interchangeably, an arborist is a specialist in the care and maintenance of individual trees, focused on their health and safety. A tree surgeon is the skilled professional who carries out the physical work, such as pruning or felling. At Nature Plus, our team combines both disciplines, ensuring every cut is made with the long-term biological health of the tree in mind.
What is "Crown Reduction" vs. "Crown Thinning"?
-
Crown Reduction: Reduces the overall height and spread of the trees canopy by pruning back to suitable growth points. This is ideal for trees that have outgrown their space.
-
Crown Thinning: Removes a percentage of smaller secondary branches from within the canopy. This allows more light to pass through and reduces wind resistance without changing the tree’s overall shape.
Can you remove a tree in a confined or difficult-to-access space?
Yes. We specialise in sectional felling, where our climbers dismantle a tree piece-by-piece using specialized rigging and lowering ropes. This allows us to remove large trees in tight gardens or near buildings without damaging the surrounding property or landscape.
Do you take away the waste and wood after the job is finished?
Absolutely. Our standard service includes the chipping of all smaller branches and the removal of heavy timber. We pride ourselves on leaving your site clean and tidy. If you would like to keep the wood for fuel or chips for mulch, just let us know during the quotation stage and we can process it accordingly.
Will you check for bird nests and wildlife before starting work?
Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, it is an offence to disturb nesting birds or bat roosts. We perform a pre-work wildlife assessment on every tree. If active nests or protected species are found, we will advise on the best course of action, which may include delaying the work until the nesting season has concluded.
Do I need to be home while the tree work is being carried out?
As long as we have clear access to the tree and a point of contact via phone, you do not need to be present. We will confirm all requirements during our initial site visit to ensure the work is completed exactly as agreed.
Is there a "best time" of year to prune my trees?
While most tree surgery can be performed year-round, many species benefit from being pruned in the dormant season (late autumn to early spring). However, some trees, like Cherry or Silver Birch, have specific requirements to avoid “bleeding” sap or disease. We provide expert guidance on the optimal timing for your specific species.
How do I know if my tree is dangerous and needs attention?
Look for “red flags” such as fungal brackets at the base, large dead branches in the canopy, deep cracks in the trunk, or a sudden lean. If you are concerned, we offer a Professional Tree Survey Service to determine if the tree requires remedial surgery or if it can be safely retained.
